Getting noticed…
The very idea of standing behind a lectern and addressing a crowd makes my heart race and bum clench. Public speaking is not my thing. I recently read the great Shonda Rhimes’ autobiography, Year of Yes and found an introverted kindred spirit who would rather run away than speak to the President and his wife (Obamas, not Trumps). She made a pact with herself to say yes to any scary thing. For the same reason, I decided to self-publish my novel.
I’ve done the basics: written the thing, professional edit, high-quality book cover design. I’ve published it with all major online retailers and informed everyone I know.
But how do I get my target market to notice my book? I feel like I’m standing in a soundproof room, pointlessly screaming. No-one can hear. Terrifying.
Then comes the crisis of confidence. What if I’ve chosen the wrong topic, the wrong angle? What if people just don’t care? I have to shake this off.
I need a marketing plan - that doesn’t cost the world, I’m already over budget.
Cue the Mission Impossible soundtrack.
